Fishing Glasses - Any Pair Of Sunglasses Won't Do

Polarized glasses are recommended for fishing

Fishing glasses are an important item to remember when going on a fly fishing trip. However, any pair of sunglasses just will not do.

Of course, it is important to have them so sun does not get into the eyes. However, it is also important to know that they are needed to reduce glare and can be worn to help spot fish.

Reducing glare is quite important. This means that the sunglasses need to be polarized.

When sunglasses are polarized, there is a thin film with vertically positioned iodine crystals between two other layers of material. Because polarization reduces glare, it reduces the amount of light that is reflected off of the water.

This causes fish to be able to be seen more clearly than if a pair of sunglasses without polarization was worn or if no sunglasses are worn.

The next important decision is the color of the sunglasses. Some people seem to think that the lens color in sunglasses is simply a style choice. However, this is not true. The colors help vision.

The darker the color, the more light is blocked from vision.

Thus, in low light condition, light colors such as yellow or copper are wanted. However, in high light conditions, darker colors such as a deep gray or black are wanted.

You can buy quality fishing glasses here.

Sunglasses come in a variety of colors and each color has its own benefits and drawbacks in different lighting conditions. Dark lenses in low light conditions can make it very difficult to see, but taking off the sunglasses may make the glare too hard for things to be able to be seen as well.

Colors such as a gray allow natural colors to be seen and colors such as yellow provide high contrasts.

Many sunglasses are now rated by percentage along with the colors.

The lower the percentage of the sunglasses, the less light passes through the lens. While it may be nice to have just one pair of fishing glasses, more than one pair will probably be needed as sun conditions always change throughout the day.

If you wear glasses, there are a few options.

  • If you are comfortable with wearing contacts, you can buy normal sunglasses.

  • If you would rather wear your glasses, there are sunglasses made to go over the glasses.

  • However, you can also get a prescription pair of sunglasses and specify if you want one certain tint or want the lenses that darken with more light.
As for the style of the fishing glasses, there are many debates about what is best. Should the whole eye be covered? Should the sides of the eyes be covered? Should the sunglasses be more like goggles or tight on the face? Should the sunglasses be like normal glasses? Should the lenses be small?

These are all valid questions. They all depend on what is wanted from the fishing experience and from the sunglasses.

The types of sunglasses that are bought will depend on what is wanted and what is needed. Some people would rather have the sunlight come in from the sides while others would rather have a tight or wrap around fit for sunglasses.

Once this is decided, it is time to look for the right style of fishing sunglasses.

It then comes down to what style looks best and feels best. Even if the exact wanted style for the previous reasons are not comfortable, find a pair that is comfortable and hopefully looks good as well.

Polarized Sunglasses

So, while there are many technical aspects of buying sunglasses for fishing, style does play a role in buying them as well.
